How to use this table for Chemistry
Chemistry marks are spread across more chapters than in Physics or Mathematics, so even the top chapter carries a smaller share than the top chapters in the other two subjects. Use the ranking to decide the order you study in, not to decide what to drop.
Basic Principles of Organic Chemistry (GOC) is the foundation for every later Organic chapter. If Organic Compounds containing Oxygen or Halogens feel hard, the gap is usually in GOC.
Many Inorganic questions come straight from NCERT text and tables. For chapters such as Coordination Compounds, p-Block and d- & f-Block Elements, a careful NCERT read followed by previous-year questions works better than a reference book.
Frequently asked questions
The Chemistry chapters with the most expected marks are Coordination Compounds (~9 marks, 7.2%), Atomic Structure (~8 marks, 6.4%), Chemical Bonding & Molecular Structure (~8 marks, 6.4%), based on 4,499 solved previous-year questions (2023–2026).
9 of the 20 Chemistry chapters cover about 50% of expected marks, and the top 10 cover about 59%. Giving those chapters more of your time pays off more than spreading it evenly across every chapter.
Class 11 chapters carry about 51% of expected Chemistry marks and Class 12 chapters about 49%. Both years count, so you can't afford to skip Class 11 Chemistry.
Organic Compounds containing Nitrogen (~3 marks, 2.4%), Purification & Characterisation of Organic Compounds (~4 marks, 3.2%) and Organic Compounds containing Halogens (~4 marks, 3.2%) carry the fewest expected Chemistry marks. Leave them until the higher chapters are secure, but don't skip them: they still come up, and short chapters are quick to cover.
It is riskier in Chemistry than in the other subjects, because the marks are spread across many chapters and no single chapter carries a large share. Low-weightage Chemistry chapters are also often short and NCERT-based, so they are cheap to cover. Order your study by this table, but cover every chapter.
Each topic has an expected-marks value calculated from 4,499 solved JEE Main PYQs (2023–2026), and a chapter's weightage is the sum of its topics' expected marks. The numbers are recalculated when new papers are added.
