Chemistry Question from JEE Main 2025 · 4 April, Shift 1

Given below are two statements.

Statement I : The dipole moment of CH3CH=CHCH=O\mathrm{CH}_{3}-\mathrm{CH}=\mathrm{CH}-\mathrm{CH}=\mathrm{O} (carbons numbered 4,3,2,14,3,2,1 from the methyl end) is greater than that of CH3CH2CH2CH=O\mathrm{CH}_{3}-\mathrm{CH}_{2}-\mathrm{CH}_{2}-\mathrm{CH}=\mathrm{O}.

Statement II : The C1C2\mathrm{C}_{1}-\mathrm{C}_{2} bond length of CH3CH=CHCH=O\mathrm{CH}_{3}-\mathrm{CH}=\mathrm{CH}-\mathrm{CH}=\mathrm{O} is greater than the C1C2\mathrm{C}_{1}-\mathrm{C}_{2} bond length of CH3CH2CH2CH=O\mathrm{CH}_{3}-\mathrm{CH}_{2}-\mathrm{CH}_{2}-\mathrm{CH}=\mathrm{O}.

In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:

  • A

Statement I is false but Statement II is true

  • B

Both Statement I and Statement II are false

  • C

Statement I is true but Statement II is false

  • D

Both Statement I and Statement II are true
